Storm Safety Blueprint
When the clouds turn purple before a storm, preparation is the difference between panic and peace. Follow our vetted guide to keep your pack safe during storm season, wherever in Australia you are.
1. Prepare Go-Bag (The Essentials Kit)
Survival in high-humidity environments requires specific storage solutions. Ensure your kit includes a 7-day supply of kibble stored in a watertight container and current medical records.
Duncan’s Material Rule
"Biothane is mandatory here. In Townsville’s post-storm humidity, leather and fabric gear will mold in days. A waterproof, odor-proof lead is a safety essential."
2. Secure The Zone (Away From Glass)
Central rooms (bathrooms/laundries) are safest. Position the crate or bed away from windows and glass sliding doors to prevent injury from flying debris or shattering glass. Use a warm lamp to provide a sense of security.
3. Mask The Noise (Fan & White Noise)
The "whistle" of the wind is a major anxiety trigger. Use a high-velocity floor fan to mask external sounds. Combine this with long-duration chews (frozen Kongs or Yak Chews) to keep the dog's brain occupied.
THE SCOUT LIST
Duncan:"Don't wait for the wind to start howling. Behaviour management in Townsville starts the moment the sky turns that bruised purple. Get them into their safe zone early."
Max:"If the fan is on and the frozen peanut butter is out, I don't care if it's a Category 3 outside. I'm busy."
