The Humans & Hounds Behind Aussie Dog Guide

Not a faceless content farm. One Townsville family — Duncan, Max the Giant Schnauzer and Ember the Border Collie — building the dog safety resource we wish existed when we moved to the tropics.

Aussie Dog Guide (AussieDogGuide.com) is an Australian-focused dog safety, training, and lifestyle resource designed to help dog owners navigate real Australian conditions — heat, wildlife, beaches, and everyday life with dogs.

I'm Duncan Ross, the human half of this operation. After fifteen years raising Airedales in the cool, wet UK, I relocated my pack to Townsville in tropical North Queensland — and quickly discovered that almost nothing I knew about keeping dogs safe still applied. The heat, the ticks, the cane toads, the stingers, the sudden monsoon storms: it was a complete re-education. Aussie Dog Guide exists because I had to learn it the hard way, and our current pack — Max the Giant Schnauzer and Ember the Border Collie — are the ones who have field-tested every single protocol you'll read on this site.

Why We Do This: Our Sane Training Philosophy

We believe in high-impact, visual advice that fits into a busy family schedule. No complex jargon—just practical, force-free methods that keep your dog safe and your sanity intact.

The idea for this site came from a simple observation: most dog training resources are walls of text. But dogs are visual creatures — and so are we! That's why I teamed up with talented designers to create easy-to-follow, infographic-style guides that you'll actually enjoy using.

When I'm not testing new gear or building guides, you'll find me on Townsville's beautiful beaches with my own pack — or enjoying a sunset barbie with the family. Because at the end of the day, it's all about living life with our four-legged best mates.

Built From Real Dogs & Real Conditions

Every guide on Aussie Dog Guide is created right here in Townsville, informed by real-life experience with Max (our Giant Schnauzer) and Ember (our Border Collie). We focus on high-impact, visual advice that keeps your dog safe and your sanity intact — that's our 'Sane Training' philosophy. Living in tropical North Queensland means we deal with extreme heat, cane toads, and sudden storms, so our guides reflect the challenges Australian dog owners actually face.
